Both statements are true, so the compound statement joined by "and" is true. Determine the symbols and if the compound statements are true or false: Here are four other compound statements taken from our original statements. P∨q: All squares are rectangles or quadrilaterals have 11 sides If we link one true and one false statement into a compound statement using the connector "or," (symbolized by ∨) we still have a true compound statement: Let's look at our original statements again: In this case, only one statement in the compound statement needs to be true for the entire compound statement to be true. When the connector between two statements is "or," you have a disjunction. Only if both parts of the compound statement are true is the entire statement true. Conjunctions are symbolized with the ∧ character, so these two discrete statements can be combined in a compound statement:Ĭompound statement (in English): Squares are rectangles and rectangles have four sides.Ĭompound statement (in mathematical symbols): p∧q Joining two statements with "and" is a conjunction, which means both statements must be true for the whole compound statement to be true. Conjunctions use the mathematical symbol ∧ and disjunctions use the mathematical symbol ∨. The two types of connectors are called conjunctions ("and") and disjunctions ("or"). ![]() The second compound statement is a logical statement (but the compound statement is false). The first connected statements, a single compound statement, are opinions. They are strung together using connectors, so you can combine ideas using "and," or "or" between statements. Statements are often symbolized with the letters p and q. Contrast them with, say, "I like cheeseburgers," which shows an opinion. With logic, statements can be labeled as true or false, such as:Ĭlearly, some of those six statements are false, but the point is, they are testable claims. Summary: We have learned how to write a sentence as a compound statement in symbolic form. Solution: The truth values of (p q) q are. In each of the following examples, we will construct a truth table for the given compound statement in order to determine its truth values.Įxample 4: What are the truth values of this compound statement? (p q) q p However, when we are not given this information, we need to construct a truth table. In the examples above, we were given the truth values of each sentence and asked to determine the truth value of the resulting compound statement. pĭetermine the truth value of this compound statement: ~p (q p)ĭetermine the truth value of this compound statement: (~a c) b It is easier to determine the truth value of such an elaborate compound statement when a truth table is constructed as shown below. In item 5, (p q) ~r is a compound statement that includes the connectors, , and ~. In Example 1, each of the first four sentences is represented by a conditional statement in symbolic form. ![]() If 7 2 = 49 or a rectangle does not have 4 sides, then Harrison Ford is not an American actor. If 7 2 = 49, then a rectangle has 4 sides. Write each sentence below in symbolic form. In this lesson, we will learn how to determine the truth values of a compound statement with the logical connectors ~,, and. Now that we have learned about negation, conjunction, disjunction and the conditional, we can include the logical connector for each of these statements in more elaborate statements.

Nerd adventure game walkthrough10/2/2023 ![]() From 2007 to 2011, the series entered a distribution deal with popular gaming websites ScrewAttack and GameTrailers, and briefly with streaming service Amazon Video in 2018. ![]() ![]() The series was soon renamed to The Angry Video Game Nerd to avoid trademark issues with Nintendo, and to allow Rolfe to review games from non-Nintendo consoles. The series became a cult success, and Rolfe began appearing as the character in various other media such as a feature-length film and video games, and many public appearances. In 2004, Rolfe, at the suggestion of future series producer Mike Matei, put the Angry Nintendo Nerd videos on his website, and in 2006 on the emerging video streaming platform YouTube, where it gained popularity. Starting out as an independent filmmaker, Rolfe intended his earliest videos of the character (originally called The Angry Nintendo Nerd) to be a joke privately shown amongst friends and colleagues. While the series began with Rolfe simply playing games while delivering retrospective commentary, the show would eventually grow in scope to encompass sketches featuring guest characters, reviews of gaming consoles and peripherals, and short lectures about video game history and culture. The series centers on Rolfe's titular skit character, often simply shortened to "the Nerd" (sometimes just "Nerd"), a fictionalized version of himself who is a short-tempered and foul-mouthed gamer who delivers commentary on retro games of poor quality. You’re looking at a 2.9% plus $0.25 transaction fee with QuickBooks Payments-but note that that’s still cheaper than many other payment processing fees. There’s a catch, of course (isn’t there always?): QuickBooks Payments' fee climbs depending on the type of payment you’re accepting, and transaction fees are higher for bills paid through invoices. However, while you can get only QuickBooks Payments with an existing QuickBooks Online subscription, its transaction fees are notably affordable: swiped fees are just 2.4% plus $0.25, cheaper than any other provider on our list. QuickBooks Online is an extremely popular accounting system, but most Intuit QuickBooks products, including Intuit QuickBooks Online, are far from cheap. ![]() As an overall (and completely free accounting solution), it's hard to beat. Still, if you run a service-based business-especially a freelance business-Wave's free unlimited invoice feature should put Wave on your to-be-considered list. (Invoice Ninja, for instance, automatically follows up on overdue and unpaid invoices.) Finally, we don't recommend Wave Accounting for product-based businesses because it doesn't have a native inventory management solution. ![]() You get a little less automation with Wave than you do with invoice-specific products. And like Square Invoice, it doesn’t include multicurrency support. Wave doesn’t offer as many payment gateways as other options (especially Hiveage)-crucially, Wave doesn't work with Stripe. But it isn’t particularly scalable-since it has just one plan, Wave’s not the best choice for businesses planning on growth. In other words, Wave is a great fit for freelancers and first-time business owners who want a fair amount of features without paying hundreds of dollars a year in accounting software.įor the most part, Wave doesn’t trade affordability for features. Wave's automatic recurring invoicing feature alone makes Wave a good investment, but Wave Accounting also includes free income and expense tracking, receipt scanning, and automatic bank reconciliation. For what it’s worth, Zoho Books is an excellent (and affordable) accounting solution-but since Zoho lacks an integrated payroll solution, its accounting and invoicing software work best for freelancers and solopreneurs with no employees. Zoho Invoice has one notable downside: it only syncs with Zoho Books, not with other accounting software options like FreshBooks or Xero.

Goodnotes ipad review10/2/2023 ![]() It seems like the neu.Annotate+ pen tool has a lower resolution tolerance and wants to guess what pixels to fill leaving the writing to look choppy and messy. Both my students and I find that the pen in neu.Annotate+ feels less natural when writing. The Rollerball and Fountain pen options in GoodNotes is also another huge win over neu.Annotate+. Zooming-in and -out often resulted in a one second delay and moving around a page on the PDF document often caused the app to bring you to the next page. While neu.Annotate+ has similar features as GoodNotes, it has always been a bit “clunky” when it came to annotating a multi-page PDF document. Over Apple TV, students can see the entire PDF document without seeing the zoom-box the teacher is using to make writing on the iPad easier. They might also be interested in transfering their on screen produces to paper, using software from somewhere like File Center to turn their work into pdf to print out for their students. This feature allows the teacher to write in the large zoom-box, while maintaining the PDF document at page-wide zoom, they could also use something similar to this pdf scanning software in within their work as well, transfering papers to those on screen. Not only is this a great feature to make things easier when you are annotating your own personal PDF documents, but it is even better when teaching from your iPad over Apple TV in your classroom. ![]() The GoodNotes “Zoom Box” allows teachers to write in a large box at the bottom of the iPad screen, while having the PDF document you are annotating zoomed out. Breeze airline stock symbol10/2/2023 ![]() The company has already grown revenues by 44% above Q4'19 levels in the last quarter, to $1.4 billion. The airline forecasts growing ASMs by over 20% in 2023 with only a 13% boost starting in Q1. Spirit Airlines has jumped in with aggressive capacity growth to take advantage of domestic travel demand and legacy airlines' slow return to 2019 capacity levels. The airline is forecast to produce a $0.61 profit this year before a surge to an EPS of $1.79 in 2024. ![]() For Q4'22, the airline reported an EPS of $0.12, and the airline is expected to generate far more profits in the years ahead with multiple catalysts on lowering costs after a big revenue gain.Īs with other airlines, Spirit Airlines started 2022 losing money and now the company is on the path to strong profits. The best part of any deal risk is that Spirit Airlines is likely worth just as much as a standalone airline. We anticipate hearing from the DOJ in the next 30 days or so and that's really all we have to say on that topic for now. We announced in December 2022 that Spirit and JetBlue had certified substantial compliance with the DOJ's second request and are now waiting to see whether the DOJ filed suit to block the deal or allows us to proceed. On the recent Q4'22 earnings call, CEO Ted Christie expects the DOJ to provide an update in the next month: Regardless, media outlets are reporting an expectation for the DOJ to file a lawsuit to block the deal. The courts have blocked all but one case brought by the DOJ in the last year. The Biden DOJ has failed miserably in blocking deals on an antitrust basis. ![]() Consumers could be forced to pay higher fares, but at the same time, ULCCs like Frontier will likely step up and replace any disappearance of low fares from the Spirit Airlines brand. The biggest concern is the consumer harm of moving to the higher-costing JetBlue brand. Right now, JetBlue and Spirit compete with Alaska Air Group ( ALK) and Frontier Group ( ULCC) for the low-cost passenger, and this combination limits some of this competition. The combined companies don't compare anywhere close to the legacy airlines, but the DOJ will likely focus on the competitive landscape for airfares outside of the Big 4. The airline business is booming with high airfares, so one has to question whether the government will be too excited to eliminate an ultra-low-cost-carrier from the market. The biggest question remains whether the DOJ will block the merger. Shareholders will see a nearly 60% upside with no pricing risk due to the cash offer. The stock currently trades below $19.50 and the deal price still offers shareholders a cash payment of $31.00 plus the $0.10 monthly payment to wait for the deal closing. JetBlue paid this first fee to Spirit Airlines holders on January 31. The deal also offers an additional prepayment fee of $0.10 per month starting in January 2023 through closing. The $3.8 billion deal price included a $2.50 cash prepayment paid by JetBlue on the merger approval by Spirit shareholders back on October 18. My investment thesis remains Bullish on the airline stock, as SAVE investors now collect $0.10 a month to wait on the deal close.īack in July, Spirit Airlines agreed to a merger deal with JetBlue at a price of $33.50 per share in cash. The biggest question remains whether the Department of Justice will file a lawsuit to block the deal. ( NYSE: SAVE) shareholders have to decide on whether to wait around for the JetBlue Airways Corporation ( JBLU) merger cash. As the airline industry hits a boom phase, Spirit Airlines, Inc. Sydney opera house original design10/2/2023 Jørn and his family hastily left Australia, and he never returned. Instead, the government appointed a panel of architects to complete the interior of the Opera House, who significantly altered Jørn’s plans. the supervision of the newly appointed architects Utzons original design was. The working relationship completely collapsed in early 1966, when Davis withheld payments from Jørn, forcing him to resign as chief architect.ĭespite protests attracting up to 1,000 people, Jørn was not reinstated. There are few buildings as famous as the Sydney Opera House in Sydney. He questioned Jørn’s schedules and cost estimates, and even attempted to alter the architect’s designs. The new Liberal Minister of Works, Davis Hughes, was a vocal opponent of the Opera House project. Tensions grew with a change of government in mid-1965. The construction of the ‘shells’ of the Opera House was complex and required the development of innovative techniques. As the technical challenges and building delays mounted, so too did the cost of the project, and the frustration of the people (and politicians) of Sydney. In 1966, following Utzons resignation, acoustic adviser Lothar Cremer confirmed that Utzons original acoustic design only allowed for 2,000 seats in the main hall. Jørn’s concept was so complex that it took at least six years to find an engineering solution for his curve-filled design. The Sydney Opera House, located in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia, is one of the most famous performing arts venues in the world. Jørn studied maritime charts of Sydney’s harbour and devised a striking scheme reminiscent of Sydney’s sailboats.īut things didn’t go to plan. His father was a naval architect and director of the local shipyard, and Jørn himself was a keen sailor. Surprisingly, Jørn had never visited Sydney, but his life experience influenced his design choices. Bemused letter-writers to The Sydney Morning Herald described it as ‘a Danish pastry’, an ‘armadillo’, ‘a disintegrating circus tent’, ‘the Loch Ness monster’ and ‘an insect which has crawled out from under a log’. The winning design thrilled the architecture profession – but the public reaction was fairly mixed. ![]() ![]() Jørn Utzon (left) shows two others the winning Opera House design. The anecdote is likely to have at least been close to the truth.” A popular story is that Saarinen was underwhelmed by the already shortlisted entrants, and pulled Utzon’s entry out of a pile of rejected schemes, exclaiming that it was easily the winning design. “There is no precise record of how the winning design was finally chosen, and accounts vary as to the extent to which Eero Saarinen was insistent on the winner. James webb vs hubble images10/2/2023 ![]() ![]() It’s a sort of follow-up to one of the Hubble Space Telescope’s greatest contributions to astronomy: the Hubble Deep Fields, a series of images that show distant galaxies in incredible detail. This same concept applies to light!īecause all galaxies are moving away from us due to the expansion of the universe, the light they produce is being stretched into longer wavelengths. On Monday, NASA - in tandem with the White House - released an incredible deep-field image taken by the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST), which demonstrates how this telescope will be able to look back at some of the earliest galaxies which lit up the cosmic dawn. This effect is known at the Doppler shift: sound waves produced by an object moving towards you are compressed, while they are stretched as the waves move away from you. Have you ever noticed the sound of an ambulance changing as it drives past you? It is higher pitched as it moves towards you, and lower pitched as it drives away. Since those galaxies are very distant, their light has been stretched, in a phenomenon known as redshift, to infrared wavelengths by the time it reaches Webb. The very first galaxies ever created in the universe are best observed in the infrared. Advantages of infrared observationsĬertain objects in space like planets, red stars and brown dwarfs are too cold to emit much visible light and are most visible in the infrared.īecause infrared light wavelengths are longer than those of visible light, they can penetrate dust clouds more easily, which allows astronomers to peer inside nebulae to see newly forming stars and planets that would otherwise remain hidden. Webb is able to peer through cosmic dust to study colder or very distant objects. While Hubble focuses mainly on light that is visible to the human eye, Webb's four scientific instruments were specifically designed to capture infrared light. (Credit NASA/ ESA/Hubble Heritage Team ( STScI/ AURA)) Why study infrared light? ![]() Observing infrared light allows scientists to penetrate the dust and study otherwise unseen parts of our universe. The Pillars of Creation in the Eagle Nebula can be seen in visible (left) and infrared (right) light as observed by the Hubble Space Telescope. This will depend on how long its propellant (needed to keep Webb stable in its orbit) will last. The minimum expected lifetime of Webb is 5 years, but it may go beyond 10 years. Hubble was launched in 1990 and will remain operational as long as its instruments are functioning. Webb is too far from Earth to repair, which is why it went through unprecedented testing before launch.
